Facebook. @ 11:12 PM

Okay, we were surfing on the net when we found this page on facebook. It's a facebook group about our school. We scrolled down to see the number of members and..

Wow,  598 MEMBERS?

We found another facebook group under the name 'MSPSBS' and over there, there are..

 832 MEMBERS altogether!

It's the little things like these that make us proud to be Maktab Sains students. We're not showing off or anything but it's a pleasure to see people supporting and appreciating our school (:

sincerely with love, us. :)

MSPSBS Choir. @ 10:17 PM

The MSPSBS Choir joined the Interschool Patriotic Song Competition 2010. They practiced almost every afternoon and they usually go home at 6 pm on school days. We also heard that on some days they had to practice at school until 7 pm! That must be really exhausting. So not surprisingly, they went to the finals. The finals was held at SM PAP Rashidah, Lumut on the 10th April 2010. Unfortunately last year, the MS Choir won 5th place. But this year?

THEY WON FIRST PLACE!

THE CHAMPIONS!

All their hard work really paid off! :D

So, we would like to congratulate the Choir members on winning the Interschool Patriotic Song Competition 2010! You guys were awesome.

The video above is of them during the finals. Enjoy watching!

A trip to MoF @ 10:14 AM
Today, Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan organized a field trip for the Year 9, MA 4 and MA 5 students who took Economics as an optional subject and some lucky PoA students to the Ministry of Finance. Since 'we' (the creators of this blog) were Economics students, we too were able to experience such a interesting trip.

Picture of MoF

We entered the gallery and saw and learnt a lot of things about the Brunei Dollar. We read through the history, looked at the different types of Brunei dollars according to their time period and figured out what the logo on each coin meant.

Then, we watched a powerpoint telling us about the value of a Brunei Dollar. After that, we were allowed to ask all the questions that have been on our minds for ages concerning Economics. With this, we further understood how important economics is in our lives.

Finally we were treated to food and beverages after a long day, took a group photo and went back to school at 4.30.

MSPSBS Sports Day 2010 @ 10:49 AM
Last Thursday, 22nd April 2010, our school held their annual Sport's Day at Belapan Stadium. We kicked off the event with morning aerobics lead by the PE department. We danced to Imma Be by Black Eyed Peas and Starstrukk by 3OH!3. It was a fantastic way to start off the glorious day. Next, we sat at the grandstand according to our sport houses while witnessing the March Pass performed by MSPSBS Cadets and the Sport Houses.

Panglima's March Pass
They really take it seriously. I mean, look at their straight lines!

Pahlawan's March Pass

Laksamana's March Pass

Hulubalang's March Pass

That's Faizul, our classmate. He's in Cadet (:

Next was the opening ceremony. The Principal gave a short speech and cut the ribbon to officially announce the opening of MSPSBS Sport's Day for 2010.

Then, the Oath for the Sport's athletes was read out by Hulubalang's Captain.

Then, we all watched as we cheered during the breath-taking field performances by each Sport Houses. Track events took place afterwards.

That's Sir Q. Our Economics teacher :D

We present to you our school's Johnny Bravo! If only he had blond Elvis-like hair plus the sunglasses, he would be exactly alike, don't you think so too? :p

Once the track events were  finished, all the students were told to go to the field while the judges deliberate. Finally, the winners were announced.

The march pass and field performance champions were won by...

PANGLIMA!!!

Here's a video of their field performance. They deserve it right?

But, the champions of this year's MSPSBS Sports Day was won by...

PAHLAWAN!!!

Panglima came second followed by Laksamana then Hulubalang. It was a very hot and tiring day for everyone. Injures, dehydration and students fainting occurred here and there but overall, it was a very fun day for everyone. We just can't wait for next year's Sports Day! We wonder who would win next? (:

PRS course in MS. @ 8:00 PM

SOME 208 students from six secondary schools and colleges gathered at the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College (MSPSBS) to take part in the Peer Guidance Group Basic Course, or “Pembimbing Rakan Sebaya” (PRS), on the 13th and 14th of April 2010.

Carrying the theme “Pemimpin Muda Kebanggaan Negara”, this year’s course was conducted by MSPSBS in collaboration with the Counselling and Career Guidance Section, Ministry of Education.

The six Cluster 1 secondary schools and colleges are Menglait Secondary School, SMJA, SOAS College, STPRI, MSPSBS and the Sultan Hassan Secondary School, Bangar.

Among the objectives of the course are to give exposure to the.Peer Guidance Group on the roles and responsibilities of student leaders and to enhance participants’ self-confidence in offering guidance to their friends.

Other objectives include producing capable peer guides and helping members of the younger generations to build their self-esteem.

The Acting Principal of MSPSBS, Cikgu Dk Sarimah binti Pg Hj Ahmad in her speech hoped that the event would enable students to gain knowledge and share experience with other students from participating schools, in order to establish themselves as leaders of high calibre.

Peer guides act as student leaders especially appointed by the school authority based on their capability to lead other students, she said, adding that they need to be given enough exposure in terms of knowledge and experience in order to conduct their roles and responsibilities effectively.

Cikgu Dk Sarimah also praised the committee members, especially the Secondary School Cluster 1 counsellors, and the Counselling and Career Guidance Section for their efforts and commitment in sharing ideas and knowledge on implementing the course.

She also expressed her confidence that participating students could shoulder the tasks they. had been entrusted with, while at the same time making use of the opportunity to prove their willingness and commitment to their respective parents, teachers, community and the nation.

Cikgu Dk Sarimah hoped the course will be the starting point for them to be more active in gaining knowledge in order for them to become dynamic, talented and competitive young leaders.

The two-day course includes activities such as “ice breaking”, motivational talks, “shooting games”, team-building exercises, and a “Rapid Crusade”.

A little tour. @ 5:14 PM
Never been inside of MS?

Let me show you a little the inside of our school. :D

This is how it looks from a distance!

These are the bridges connecting the classrooms to the Upper Secondary Science Labs.

Teachers' Cafeteria! But often only students hangout there.

Here is the changing room in the gym.

The Science Labs!

Our fish pond in front of the administration building.

Our school library! But now the library is colourful, not as plain like this.

Staircase to go to the classrooms.
the futsal field

That's just a bit of our school.

Why not see it yourself if you have the chance? :)
